How to compare two texts
- Paste the original text on the left and the changed version on the right.
- Differences appear instantly: removed lines in red, added lines in green, with the changed words highlighted.
- Switch between Split and Unified views, and ignore whitespace when comparing re-indented code.
What you can compare
- Two versions of a config file, such as YAML, JSON or
.env - Code snippets before and after a change
- Documents, contracts or translations
- Logs or command output from two runs
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so you can safely diff configuration files, contracts or code that must stay private.
What is the difference between split and unified view?
Split view shows the original and the changed text side by side, which is easiest to read. Unified view shows a single column where removed lines start with - and added lines with +, like git diff.
What does "ignore whitespace" do?
It ignores spaces and tabs at the start and end of lines, so re-indented code is not reported as changed.
How are changed lines detected?
The checker uses the Myers diff algorithm, the same approach as git, to find the smallest set of line changes. Within a changed line, the words that differ are highlighted.
