Common mistakes
* 9 * * * does not run once at 9am: it runs every minute from 09:00 to 09:59. Use0 9 * * * instead. Also remember that */7 in the minute field restarts every hour, so it fires at :56 and then again at :00, only four minutes later.
Frequently asked questions
What are the five fields of a cron expression?
In order: minute (0-59), hour (0-23), day of month (1-31), month (1-12 or JAN-DEC) and day of week (0-7 or SUN-SAT, where both 0 and 7 mean Sunday).
What happens when both day of month and day of week are set?
In standard cron (Vixie cron, used by most Linux systems and Kubernetes CronJobs), the job runs when either field matches. For example, 0 0 1 * 1 runs on the 1st of each month and also on every Monday.
Which time zone does cron use?
Cron uses the time zone of the machine or service running it, which on servers is often UTC. Use the UTC toggle to preview run times the way a UTC server sees them.
Does this support seconds or Quartz syntax?
This tool supports the standard 5-field format plus macros like @daily and @hourly. Quartz and Spring cron use 6 or 7 fields with seconds and special characters like ? and L, which are not supported yet.
